In restaurant and bar environments, customers often write in a tip on the receipt after signing. Clover supports post-transaction tip adjustment, allowing you to update the final charge before the batch closes.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Ensure tip adjustment is enabled: log into dashboard.clover.com, go to Setup > Payments, and confirm 'Tip After Transaction' is turned on.
- On the Clover device, open the Transactions app and locate the transaction to be adjusted.
- Tap 'Adjust Tip.' Enter the tip amount written by the customer on the signed receipt.
- Confirm the new total (original amount + tip). The adjustment is applied immediately.
- Tip adjustments must be completed BEFORE the batch is closed. Tips cannot be adjusted on settled transactions.
- For high-volume operations, designate a manager to review and enter all tip adjustments before the daily batch close time.
📌 Important Note: The maximum allowable tip adjustment is typically 20–25% above the original transaction amount per card network rules. Adjustments above this threshold may be flagged or reversed.
